Interesting Turn of Events....

Soooo......who saw that coming? When I googled for results, the first headline was Olympic Spot Conceded Without Runoff. Without knowing who, my guess was Ms. Felix conceded since she won the 200m. So very wrong. Damn...I didn't see this one coming.

To back up for a quick minute...I wrote last week about the tie between Allyson Felix and Jeneba Tarmoh in the 100m trials. How they first called it for Jeneba, then the photo finish guy said 'no wait....um actually, it was a tie'. Never happened before so USATF had to make up a new rule in a jiffy. Solution? Run off or Coin Toss. Nice, huh?

So they announced yesterday, at the close of the Trials, that the ladies decided on a run off, as a coin toss is just really too insane a choice. It was gonna happen tonight...on live tv, etc, etc. I totally missed the headlines today...as Jeneba announced that Nope, she wouldn't be doing a run off thank you very much, as that would be conceding there was a tie. Wait. What?

Crazy turn of events. She's protesting to officials, which I am not sure will do any good, since apparently she's missed the allotted time frame to protest the ruling. Kind of sad though. A run off is not exactly fair either since these athletes train at such a high level and doing an extra big event like that could really be tough. Not exactly running on fresh legs, you know?

Kind of makes for awkward practices, though, since they are both coached by the same guy. Oy. Will be interesting to see what happens next....
