PDX or Bust

It's officially official! I will be running my first FULL marathon in Portland in a few months! I'd pretty much decided on this one after being denied for NYC in April, I just hadn't gotten around to registering yet. Out of fear of it selling out, I finally took care of some bidness today.

And I'm in. I can't wait...this race has a reputation for being super duper cool. To wit--here's some of their awards:

  • Top 5 medals in the US (Marathon & Beyond)
  • Top 10 Greenest Road Runs (RW)
  • Top 10 Marathon for 1st Time Marathoners (RW)
  • Best Race Swag in the Northwest (Best of Competitor 2011)
  • Most Walker-Friendly Marathon in US (RW)
  • Best Marathon in the Northwest (Best of Competitor 2011)
Plus - you get not one but TWO shirts, they offer bib personalization (what better way to have spectators scream your name?) and the course is rated a 2 difficulty on scale of 10 with 28% PRs…last 8 miles slightly downhill. How awesome-sauce is that?

Plus, that weekend, we'll be celebrating my lovely daughter's 15th birthday....what better way to make a weekend out of the trip! We'll head down early and do some sightseeing and tax-free shopping and then BAM-I'll run 26.2 on Sunday. I can't wait to cross the finish line!

I've already got my training schedule all planned...so I'm ready to tackle this next challenge. BRING IT!
